Using Cartoon Discussions for Vocabulary Acquisition in English Language Teaching

Action research was carried out in the preparatory program of a foundation university to examine effectiveness cartoon discussions vocabulary acquisition. Students were shown videos based on theme textbook unit and asked answer guiding questions including target implicitly or explicitly. divided into randomly selected groups complete task using acquired through learning management system. The students (n=19) given pre-and post-test with words that they supposed learn during eight-week process. tests assessed by three different teachers (the W-coefficient found as .944 for inter-rater reliability) pre-prepared rubric researchers. To evaluate students’ perceptions, at end process, questionnaire. Findings revealed results students, who discussion practiced collaboratively system, significantly higher compared their pre-test results. expressed positive views concerning this method questionnaire applied. Acquisition effective well-received students.
